Super energy efficient, eco-friendly hotel opens in California

The US state of California has a new, luxury hotel. But that’s no big deal. What has made it newsworthy is that this one is green.

The hotel uses recycled and sustainably produced materials throughout the building. Lobby chairs are upholstered with recycled polyester. Solar energy heats the swimming pool. Native, adaptive plants and a drip irrigation system reduce the use of water by 50-percent. Over 50-percent of the construction waste materials has been recycled or salvaged.
The lights are LED. A centralized energy conserving occupancy sensor system automatically adjusts lighting and temperature in the guest rooms. The air conditioning system uses a CFC free refrigerant chiller plant. The hot water system uses high efficiency boilers.
One button turns off all the lights in each guest room. Toilets and shower heads are very low flush using 20-percent less water than usual. And even the soaps and shampoos are eco-friendly.
