A special apartment has been built with the help of Korean scientists who hope their energy-saving technologies will eventually help everyone reduce electricity costs.
Our Lee Ji-yoon has more. This eight-story apartment building was constructed to keep the indoors cool even without an air conditioner.
This might sound too good to be true, but a group of Korean scientists worked their magic by incorporating various energy-saving technologies.
First is its motorized solar blinds that hang outside the window, which help to lower the temperature by about three degrees Celsius.
“Usually blinds are hung indoors but by hanging these motorized blinds outside, the summer heat is effectively blocked from coming inside.”
These windows provide good, natural cross ventilation.
Vacuum insulation panels are also mounted on the exterior wall of the apartment, which help to prevent summer heat… and prevent heat loss in the winter.
Experts say such apartments are more cost-effective in the long run.
“Using green technologies might cost more in the beginning, but it’s worth it when you consider the benefits, such as a reduction in carbon emissions and lower electricity costs.”
Solar power generators on top of the apartment building also produce electricity, significantly reducing electricity costs.
More construction companies are expected to incorporate similar energy-saving technologies after they’ve standardized and commercialized it over the course of the next couple of years.
